I’m a second year PhD student in the Department of Government at the University of Essex, I hail from Cambridge and now live in Walthamstow with my lovely partner Katie. I’m a big film fan (though not knowledgeable enough to be a full-blown buff) and I love a wide range of music but especially funk, soul, and hip-hop. I don’t read anywhere near enough (non-academic) books but I try to keep up with news and current affairs. Oh, and I’m a big Chicago Cubs fan.
My research focuses on how privilege and perception of privilege impact on political participation in the United Kingdom. I’ve run a large online survey via YouGov and am conducting interviews with MPs, activists, and members of the public. I hope my research will lead to a job working to change politics so that it is more responsive, meaningful, and attractive to a wider range of people (and especially to people who are currently alienated from it). Alternatively, a research job for any worthwhile organisation would also be ace.
I’ve started this blog because I reckon it’s about time for me to dip my toe back into having views on politics in practice rather than just studying it from an academic perspective. Also, I appreciate being able to express my beliefs in a more informal way, and I enjoy sharing the music that I love and my views on the films I watch. I hope you find something worthwhile here. Whatever you think, let me know by leaving a comment.
